The Deteriorating Patient – reach for the charts!

A full three years have passed since the launch of the West of England Patient Safety Collaborative, Deteriorating Patient and National Early Warning Score (NEWS) programme, this event will focus on celebrating the key achievements and impact across the region.

We will discuss the national deteriorating patient work stream, NEWS2 and what this means locally, and how we will continue to embed NEWS across the West of England.

NIHR CLAHRC West will present about systematic reviews, qualitative and quantitative evaluations of NEWS both in an out of hospital.  Joining us will also be Carmen Hendy from the University of Cardiff who has been reviewing how social networks and collaborative approaches impact on the success of systematic change.

We are also building up a picture of how NEWS works in practice to improve safer care using feedback from clinicians working on the front line to inform the work at each stage. Find out more here.

The programme is designed to give delegates an opportunity to network to discuss the outcomes of NEWS in a range of care settings across the region.

Delegates across the region will be able to celebrate in the success of this collaborative working project which continues to grow and expand across the health system.

Delegates will also be among the first to learn the results of the NEWS evaluation in the range of the clinical settings we have been working with.

In addition delegates will be updated on the national deteriorating patient workstream, and explore how we can continue to work together to achieve a safer healthcare system.

We would welcome attendees from all organisations who have worked on deteriorating patient workstreams or have an interest in the evaluation of the project so far. We continue to welcome representatives from community and urgent care (including practice nurse and mental health services), GP referral units or single points of clinical access, South Western Ambulance Trust, Emergency Departments and secondary care wards so we can demonstrate the improvements we have made across all services across the region. Specifically, we would also actively encourage attendance from primary care and care home teams as we continue to expand the project into these care settings.
