The Future of Care: Genomic Science – now and future

This event is the first in a series of four Future of Care events to raise awareness and knowledge of the future facing developments that are fast approaching the NHS and becoming more mainstream that senior decision makers and leaders in local systems need to be cognisant of and begin to plan for.

Genomic medicine has the potential to save costs and improve quality of care by targeting treatment, maximising benefit and reducing side effects.

The science of genomics is opening up better diagnoses for patients, better and safer treatments, opportunities for screening and the possibilities for prevention.

Through the establishment of Genomics England and the 100,000 Genomes Project England has been ahead of the game in transforming our NHS by integrating genomics into the health service in ways other countries can only dream of. This is enabled by a technological revolution with data sciences, genomic and computer technology which is all evolving rapidly. We are already seeing personalised or targeted medicine for the care of patients with cancer or rare diseases. We need to be aware of these opportunities and changes and the implications for the workforce we need for the future – and to start planning for it now.

This conference is aimed at non genomics specialists who want to learn more about the opportunities genomics and personalised medicine will afford our NHS in future years. It will also be of interest to genomics leaders and specialists providing you with the opportunity to hear from thought leaders in this field of medicine and to network with key people from across the system who will be leading conversations and supporting decisions about the future of care and use of genomics.
