Digital Art of the Possible 2 – Solving Healthcare Challenges with Evidence Based Digital Technologies (AHSN members & health and care professionals only)

This event is free of charge to NHS, local authority health and care professionals and AHSN member organisations. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The digital revolution is fully upon us, bringing with it an exciting array of opportunities to support the future health and wellbeing of the population. But the digital innovations we are adopting in our personal lives often far outpace those offered in health and care settings. This has to change!

• Clinicians and staff want to harness available tools, technologies, intelligence and insights to enhance the quality and safety of the care they deliver.
• Patients want to communicate with their care providers using the same media platforms they use in their personal lives and exploit easy to use apps and technologies to manage their individual healthcare needs.

But moving to a digital future is sometimes easier to say than do, and working out the best way to make the most of the myriad of digital opportunities available isn’t always straightforward.

The Accelerated Access Review, published in October 2016, reports that the health and care system in England often lags behind other countries in the adoption of innovation.  As Professor Bob Wachter observes in his own September 2016 review into Information Technology within the NHS, ‘…trying to achieve the aims articulated in the Five Year Forward View in a non-digital NHS will be far costlier, far more disruptive and far riskier. Simply put, the NHS will be unable to achieve its goals without digitising effectively.’

At the West of England Academic Health Science Network, innovation is at the heart of our mission to deliver a modern, constantly improving healthcare system for the region. We are the connectors across organisations and sectors, harnessing the enthusiasm and passion of frontline health staff and unlocking the potential for health, commercial and third sector innovators to improve services, patient outcomes and save money. We recognise the vast opportunities presented by the digital revolution around us but appreciate the significant challenges faced by our members in identifying, securing and successfully delivering innovation and leading edge technologies.

Our second Digital Art of the Possible event draws on our experiences and learnings to date and brings you not only an exhibition hall packed with digital innovations aligned to your STP priority needs, but also a series of interactive workshops, demonstrations and group discussions which will guide you as to best way to evaluate digital healthcare innovations and accelerate their adoption into practice.

We will also be hosting a dedicated afternoon work space bringing together a range of stakeholders who will contribute to the design of a digital evaluation framework which will provide structure to answer the questions of value and approach (and more!), thus smoothing the passage of innovation to implementation.
