Event summary

AKIs & the effect of NSAIDs and DAMN drugs
With guest speaker on the benefits of Social Prescribing

Join our fifth Polypharmacy Community of Practice on Thursday 28 September, during which we will think and talk about kidneys.

Take part in discussing various strategies used to minimise the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) risks in patients on polypharmacy. We will focus on optimising NSAIDs and other DAMN medicines. Not sure what the DAMN drugs are? Join us to find out!

Our guest speaker is a social prescriber who will share their experience and resources on non-pharmacological pain reduction interventions.

Patient engagement in deprescribing is key to shared decision-making. It’s recognised it is a complex issue for patients and clinicians to fully adopt effective shared decision-making.

To support clinicians in gaining confidence in carrying out structured medication reviews using shared decision-making processes, the AHSN Network has been delivering evidence-based Action Learning Sets (known as ALS). Held over three morning sessions, these will continue regularly in 2023/24.

What is the Polypharmacy community of practice (COP)?

A network of passionate and enthusiastic clinicians who all working to address the system-wide challenges of problematic polypharmacy in the West of England (Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire; Bath & North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire; and Gloucestershire).

The COP is not like other meetings. There will be the opportunity to discuss, share and learn from other colleagues and develop solutions to some of the tricky problems or issues around polypharmacy.

Please note that our Community of Practice is self-evolving with the focus of each session guided by the members and the contributions from previous COP meetings. The community members have shared that they benefit from hearing from others and about proven solutions, and this could be what you’ve been missing.

Who should attend

This event will be most useful for healthcare professionals, including medical and non-medical prescribers from a range of professions, who share an interest in and passion for addressing inappropriate polypharmacy.
