There was an extremely positive response to our Diabetes Digital Coach test bed programme when it came under the spotlight at UK e-Health Week in London in April.
Members of the consortium delivering the programme took part in a panel discussion on the main stage exploring ‘how to provide digital tools and citizen access for managing diabetes’.
Beverley Bryant, Director of Digital Technology for NHS England and our test bed sponsor, started with an introduction to the overall NHS test bed programme. She then talked in more detail about Diabetes Digital Coach, the two-year test bed programme led by the West of England AHSN, which will recruit 12,000 people with diabetes across our region to test and evaluate a wide range of innovative technologies to help in the self-management of their condition.
Anjanish Shekhar, Client Partner at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), a member of the Diabetes Digital Coach consortium, was also on the panel and discussed the need for self management in order to achieve outcome-focussed transformation in healthcare service delivery.
This led to an active question and answer session with delegates, where again the need for self management strongly resonated and many expressed support for extending the Diabetes Digital Coach concept for other long-term health conditions, as well as into other regions of the country.
The following short film was also shown to explain our NHS test bed, featuring Sandra Tweddell, patient representative for Diabetes Digital Coach, and Elizabeth Dymond, Deputy Director of Enterprise at the West of England AHSN.
