Professor Sir Steve West CBE, DL is Vice-Chancellor, President and CEO of the University of the West of England, Bristol. Steve trained as a Podiatrist and Podiatric Surgeon in London and developed his research interests in Lower Limb Biomechanics and the Diabetic Foot at King’s College London. He worked as a clinician and clinical tutor in the NHS, University Sector and undertook research and consultancy in industry and the retail healthcare sectors.
Steve is one of the longest serving UK Vice-Chancellors and is currently President of Universities UK. He is Chair of the West of England LEP, Non-Executive Director for the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Non-Executive Director for the Office for Students and Chair of the Universities UK Mental Health in Higher Education Working Group.
Steve is a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Gloucestershire. He was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2017 for services to Higher Education, and was awarded a knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2023 for his major contributions to education, health, and business.
